    Today, almost everybody owns a portable electronic device.  Becoming part of an organization that designs and develops advanced mobile electronics is something to be excited about. Within the Electrical Engineering organization you will be afforded the opportunity to work on the heart of these products. Our department designs printed circuit boards with the latest technologies available and works with many high tech international companies on complex components that are currently unknown to the general public. 

    The seasoned engineers within the group possess great knowledge in a variety of areas including radios, batteries, displays, audio components and power subsystems. You too can increase your knowledge in these areas and more by becoming part of this thrilling organization.


    Here are some “typical” tasks that you would be involved in:

    • Test products and improve designs to withstand over 20,000 Volts of static electricity.
    • Evaluate product performance at -30C temperatures.
    • Solve product issues that are caused by physical abuse including hundreds of drops.
    • Work with mechanical, RF and software engineers to gain multidisciplinary experience.
    • Evaluation of a variety of products while learning about different functions within portable electronic devices (e.g. displays, radios, batteries, core architecture, etc.)
    • Evaluate different sensors, such as accelerometers, ambient light, proximity, etc.


    You will be joining the Electrical Engineering team and will be participating in leading edge design activities for state-of-the-art rugged mobile computers. Your responsibilities will include the activities below, in a varying mix depending on the program and on the level of Electrical Engineering (EE) staffing for that program:

    • Involvement in product development from the initial design/prototype phase though to production
    • Participate in the Electrical Engineering activities aimed at developing mobile computers and associated accessories (the “product family”).
    • Work with the Electrical Engineers to assist in coordinating the activities of the designers to achieve a compliant design for the product family in the shortest possible time and at the lowest possible cost.
    • Contribute to guiding the overall electrical design for the product family to ensure that it fulfills the Product Requirements Specification.
    • Work in close collaboration with the other disciplines to ensure that their requirements coexist with the electrical requirements.
    • Assist in designing and testing the detailed integration of the various modules and sub-assemblies in the mobile computers (e.g. processor modules, display modules, imagers, radios, batteries, etc.), the design of the accessories, and help ensure the correct integration of the computer and associated accessories.
    • Work to ensure that electrical and product family verification is planned and executed in an efficient and structured manner.  Recorded results must be properly documented.
    • Actively participate in the Program Management team meetings, from an electrical engineering perspective.
    • Support the transfer of responsibility for the new product from the design team to the Sustaining Engineering group.
    • Support and assist with electrical product issues identified through the Sustaining Engineering Group (ECRT).
    • Contribute to and learn from design reviews, side-by-side with senior engineers
    • Identify circuit design changes after debugging new circuits.
    • Solid understanding of engineering principles – specifically in the area of electrical engineering.
    • Must be excited about 21st Century technologies (otherwise, why bother working in high-tech?).
    • Creativity in solving problems.
    • Strong interest in (and, if possible, experience in using) mobile computing devices (e.g. smartphones, tablets, mobile Operating Systems such as Android and iOS).
    • Experience with MS Office is required.
    • Must be a clear thinker with a focus on delivering cool solutions.
    • Must be well organized with good time management skills.
    • Must work equally well independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
    • Must be able to work on multiple tasks and/or projects at any given time.
    • Good verbal and written skills are essential.


    Education: Completed 3rd year Electrical Engineering, Engineering Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science.
