  • Overview

    Within the RF and Antenna Engineering organisation, you will be afforded the opportunity to work on the technologies that enable mobile devices to communicate wirelessly.  Our department designs complex wireless circuit boards and antennas with the latest 3G and 4G+ technologies available and collaborates with many high tech international companies on complex components and upcoming 5G technologies that are currently unknown to the general public.
    The seasoned engineers within the group possess great knowledge in a variety of areas including GSM, LTE, Bluetooth, WiFi (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ad), GPS, and communications for IoT.  You too can increase your knowledge in these areas and more by becoming part of the RF and Antenna group.
    Here are some “typical” tasks that you would be involved in:

    • Test products and improve designs to wirelessly achieve giga bit throughputs.
    • Work on complex multiple antenna designs in challenging handheld and vehicle mounted form factors.
    • Evaluate product performance against competitors to see how to make our devices communicate faster and over longer ranges.
    • Work with mechanical, electrical and software engineers to gain multidisciplinary experience.
    • Learning about RF functions within portable electronic device, such as power amplifiers, mixers, LNA’s, actively tunable antennas, new antenna technologies
    • Research related to 5G technologies to enhance our future products.

    Responsibilities

    • Involvement in product development from the initial design/prototype phase though to production
    • Participate in the RF and Antenna Engineering activities aimed at developing mobile computers and associated accessories (the “product family”).
    • Work with the RF and Antenna Engineers to assist in coordinating the activities of the designers to achieve a compliant design for the product family in the shortest possible time and at the lowest possible cost.
    • Contribute to guiding the overall wireless design for the product family to ensure that it fulfills the Product Requirements Specification.
    • Work in close collaboration with the other disciplines both HW and SW to ensure that their requirements coexist with the RF and antenna requirements.
    • Assist in designing and testing the detailed integration of the various modules and sub-assemblies in the mobile computers (e.g. WiFi/BT modules, WAN/GSM/LTE circuitry, active antenna tuner etc.), the design of the accessories, and help ensure the correct integration of the device and associated accessories.
    • Work to ensure that RF and Antenna product family verification is planned and executed in an efficient and structured manner.  Recorded results must be properly documented.
    • Actively participate in the Program Management team meetings, from an RF and Antenna engineering perspective.
    • Support the transfer of responsibility for the new product from the design team to the Sustaining Engineering group.
    • Support and assist with RF product issues identified through the Sustaining Engineering Group (ECRT).
    • Contribute to and learn from design reviews, side-by-side with senior engineers.
    • Identify circuit design changes after debugging new circuits.
    • Participate in innovation initiatives e.g. IoT device design, advanced antenna simulations
    • Help next years’ student join and integrate with the RF and Antenna team.

    Completed 3rd year Electrical Engineering, Engineering Science, Computer Engineering
